URGENT

ICAPP Update (14-17)

Dear Distinguished Members of the ICAPP Standing Committee,

As SC Members must have heard through reports, Martial Law was announced in Thailand today by the Royal Thai Army, after six months of political upheaval in Thailand which had culminated in the removal of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from office by the Constitutional Court on May 7, 2014.

Many governments of leading democracies in the world have issued statements expressing their concern on this turn of event in Thailand immediately.

After consulting with several SC Members, we decided to issue a statement in the name of the ICAPP Standing Committee, which is attached herewith.

For your reference we also attached the official statement issued by the governments of Indonesia, Japan, Philippines and the U.S., among others. Also attached is a statement issued by the Asian Human Rights Commission.

With warm regards,

Chung Eui-yong

Co-Chairman of the Standing Committee

and Secretary General of the ICAPP

Seoul, Korea
