ICAPP Update (14-06)

Dear Distinguished Members of the ICAPP Standing Committee,

This is to inform you that I visited Colombo, Sri Lanka during March 11-13, 2014 and held meetings with leaders of the governing Freedom Party (SLFP) and the opposition United National Party (UNP).

At the meeting with leaders of the SLFP, including His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Chairman of the SLFP, the following understandings were reached regarding the 8th General Assembly (GA) of the ICAPP to be held in Colombo in September 2014.

- The 8th GA will be held in Colombo during September 18-21, 2014.

- The main theme of the 8th GA will be "Building an Asian Community."

- The SLFP will provide local accommodation for up to two representatives of each participating political party and observer delegation.

- The SLFP will co-host the 8th GA with the UNP.

More detailed report on the results of the visit to Sri Lanka is attached herewith. Also attached are the tentative program and conference procedures of the 8th GA, which have been confirmed by the SLFP.

Official invitations, to be signed by the Co-Chairmen of the Standing Committee and Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, Secretary General of the SLFP, will be soon sent out by the Secretariat to all political parties which are eligible to be invited according to the ICAPP criteria.
