ICAPP Update (21-2) Statement by ICAPP Secretary-General and Co-Chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee

Dear Distinguished Members of the ICAPP Standing Committee,

As SC members are aware, on 1 February 2021, Myanmar's military authorities have detained multiple civilian government leaders, including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and civil society leaders.

Given the urgent situation, Hon. Jose de Venecia, Jr., Founder of the ICAPP and Co-Chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee, and I, as the Secretary-General of the ICAPP, have issued a statement on the recent developments in Myanmar.

The news report on the statement can be found using the link here and on our website.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres also issued a statement, in which he appealed for prompt adherence to democratic norms and engagement in peaceful dialogue that can resolve any differences among all parties.

The statements issued by the ICAPP and the U.N. respectively are attached herewith and can also be found on our website.

Best regards,

Cho Byung-jae

Secretary-General of the ICAPP
